For ten years UFW pursued a lawsuit against a Tri-Cities area dairy farm. The media dutifully reported their accusations against the farmer. But many of those accusations were dropped when it came time to go to court. Apparently, they were true enough for media reports, but not for a judge or jury. Then, after ten years and as the court date approached, the UFW agreed to a “walk away” agreement. The farmer paid nothing, no legal fees, no settlement. Why would they walk away after ten years? We suspect it was because they didn’t want their actions to see the light of day through the court.
